Laal Singh Chaddha has underperformed at the box office in its first weekend. Compared to its Rs 180 crore budget, the film has hardly earned any money. Since from its release it has been in the limelight attracting diverse facets and controversies which has affected its box office collections. Its first day collections hasĀ  left fans disappointed when it witness aĀ  slow start on August 11 and despite being a holiday, the film, according to a report, could garner only Rs 11.50 crore whileĀ  OnĀ  the 3rd day, August 13, Laal Singh Chaddha registered a huge drop, taking the film’s three-day total to around Rs 27.71 crore.

Ā Review of Lal Singh Chaddha Collections

Lal Singh Chadha recorded a 15-20 percent presence in the theaters on the first day which is being estimated a worry for an Amir Khan film. After a break of four years, Aamir surely would have expected better theatrical prospects from his film. As per early estimates, LSC registered an improvement of around 20 per cent on Day 3 with collections of around Rs 8.75 crore. A report on Boxofficeindia.com states that the film was expected to grow by atleast 40 per cent on Saturday but could only manage 20 per cent rise in box office numbers. The report further states that Delhi/Uttar Pradesh and East Punjab contributed around 40 per cent of the all India business.

Ā  Ā Protest against the film in UP

Some members ofĀ  Sanatan Rakshak Sena staged agitation in Uttar Pradesh and said that they were adamant on calling for anĀ  ban on Laal Singh Chaddha. The protest wasĀ  registeredĀ  by them after allegingĀ  Aamir Khan of mocking and making fun of Hindu deities in his films. The protesting members raised slogans against the Advait Chandan directorial while accusing the actor of hurting their religious sentiments.

Laal Singh Chaddha faced a lot of controversy even before its release. There was a Twitter trend on boycotting the film, over statements made by Aamir and Kareena in the past. Aamir has even apologised to the audience and requested them to watch the film in the theatres. Laal Singh Chaddha is the official Hindi remake of the Hollywood film, Forrest Gump, featuring Tom Hanks.
