Raksha Bandan festival which is observed on the last day of Hindu Lunar month of Sawan was celebrated across Jammu with traditional fervor and gaiety today despite the heavy downpour during the day.
Keeping the age old tradition alive, the sisters of all age groups right from old women to girls tied Rakhis on the wrists of their brothers. The married sisters visited the houses of their parents to tie the Rakhis around the wrists of their brothers and in return they were given gifts as token of love by their brothers who symbolically protect their sisters.
In Jammu various schools and Ashrams also celebrated the festival in a grand scale. At Ved Mandir Ambphalla the girls tied Rakhis (sacred thread) around the wrists of boys who took a symbolic pledge to protect them in their future life.
The Raksha Bandan was also celebrated inside the District Jail Ambphalla here where sisters from Prajapati Brahma Kumaris Ishwari Vishwa Vidhyalya Jammu today tied the Rakhis to male prisoners that created emotional scenes. The sweets were also distributed on the occasion. The function as held under the chairmanship of Jail Superintendent Mirza Salim.
