Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), a video game app, appears to have been banned in India two years after PUBG Mobile was banned, since the programme abruptly vanished from the India-specific Google Play and Apple App Store on Thursday late at night. The software, which is the Indian adaptation of PUBG Mobile, was released in India in 2021 after PUBG was banned in India in September 2020.
While there has been no official confirmation on the same from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, South Korean company Krafton, BGIM’s developing company, has issued a statement saying, “We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play store and the App store and will let you know once we get specific information.”
According to a report by India Today, the Rajya Sabha recently reviewed the effects of action movies on youngsters, and a concern regarding BGMI was brought up during that discussion. The conversation was sparked by a news story about a 16-year-old kid who shot and killed his mother in Lucknow last month after she forbade him from playing video games.
