Today, several Amarnath Yatris have accused the local matador operators of charging extra fair from them.
The incident came to light when the local traffic police setup a check point under the supervision of ASI G.C Thapa near the railway station after receiving a complaint by an anonymous person, they stopped every plying matador operator to ensure that the Amarnath devotees must not be charged extra fair for their travel.
An Amarnath devotee said that they were charged Rs 200/- for 11 passengers by a matador operator from Jammu bus stand to railway station as they are unaware of the local fair , they are being charged unfairly.

Another commuter said that he is a migrant daily wager and he earns very less money per day but sometimes the local matador drivers overcharge him. “This is a violation and they should stop charging extra fair”, he said.
A matador operator who was present at the spot said that they are not taking extra money from the passengers and only sometimes they charge money for extra luggage of the passengers.
ASI Traffic police G.C Thapa who was present at the scene also told the local matador operators to affix the fair list in their vehicles and any violation in relation to that will attract fine.
