The atmosphere is sensitive after the murder of a leader of a BJP Yuva Morcha in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. In a village yesterday, BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru was murdered by unknown people with deadly weapons. Today Netaru’s body has been brought to his village. There is a huge crowd at the spot. Earlier, police force was deployed at the Government Hospital in Puttur where Netaru’s body was kept. Netaru, 32, was murdered on the night of 26 July. After this the administration has become alert and instructions have been issued in view of security. BJP workers called for a bandh in some parts on 27 July but Puttur Assistant Commissioner M Girish Nadan has imposed curfew in those areas till the midnight of 28 July.

According to the police, on July 26, at 9.30 pm, three people reached Praveen’s poultry farm on a two-wheeler. At that time Praveen was about to leave for his house and as he sat on his scooter, the trio allegedly attacked him. Praveen’s friend Madhu Kumar came running when he heard the voice for help. He was in a poultry farm at that time. He was found unconscious at a distance of fifty meters from where Praveen’s scooter was standing. Madhu had reportedly seen the attackers with sharp weapons on their way to Puttur on a motorcycle. Praveen was taken by ambulance to a private hospital in Puttur where he died.

As soon as the news of Praveen’s death came, a large number of BJP workers gathered outside the hospital and stopped his body being taken to the morgue of the government hospital. On the persuasion of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner KV Rajendra, they agreed in the night and allowed the body to be taken away.

Today, SP Rishikesh Sonawane said that four teams have been formed to nab the attackers. No arrest has been made in the case so far. At the same time, it was told that Karnataka BJP President Nalin Kumar can join the procession to protest the murder of Praveen.
