Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa, along with Divisional Forest Officer Social Forestry Alok Maurya, today planted tree saplings at Society for Prevention of Cruelty on Animals (SPCA) land here at Chowadi under Van Mahotsav.
CPO Yoginder Katoch; ACG Rakesh Dubey; ACP Meenakshi Vaid; Vice President SPCA Devinder Kour along with other senior officers present on the occasion also planted the trees.
The dignitaries planted scores of trees and more trees would be planted by the Social Forestry in future.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that trees are vital for the survival of the planet earth as trees give oxygen, improve air quality, store carbon, preserve soil, support wildlife and give life to our environment.
She also urged the general public to come forward and obtain saplings from the concerned departments and plant and nurture them for a clean and green Jammu.
Alok Maurya, Divisional Forest Officer also threw light on the importance of trees and said every human should plant a tree to contribute to making the environment green and clean.
He said that planting trees was the only solution to tackle climate change as trees are the natural cleaners of air.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the senior officers from Jal Shakti and PDD to ensure proper water and power facilities at the SPCA land.
