The opposition presidential candidate, Yashwant Sinha visited Srinagar on Saturday to garner the support of people for himself ahead of the polls .
During a press conference he was quoted as saying, ” If elected, one of my priorities would be to take all necessary steps to resolve the Kashmir issue permanently and restore peace, justice, democracy , normalcy and end the hostile devlopment towards J&K “.
He said , “the former Jammu and Kashmir CM’s Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti present here are the biggest patriots of our country and if these are not the true patriots then none of us have any right to claim any patriotism towards our country “.
During his word with the media he also expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of Amarnath incident and requested the central government to provide every possible help to the stranded pilgrims .
He was also seen extending his warm wishes on the occasion of Eid and hoped that the festival will be celebrated with peace and harmony across the region.
The Election Commission of India has scheduled the date for the 16th Presidential election on July 18 and the counting of votes would be held on July 21, if needed.
A total of 4,809 electors comprising MPs and MLAs will vote to elect Ram Nath Kovind’s successor. Kovind’s tenure will be ending on July 24 following which the new President will be sworn in on July 25.
