The agitators protested at the local District Commissioner office and gave their memorandum to shift the wine shop somewhere else.

A protestor said, It has been three months since we are opposing the closure of this wine shop in our locality but the local regime has decided to ignore our demands. We have also submitted a written application to the local DC mam regarding the replacement of the liqour here as the shop is close to our houses, school, metador stand and this is creating a bad influence on our children and society in general.

“We came here at the DC office a month ago and its been 28 days since we gave the application to the local DC mam. But today when we came again here to remind the local administrator about our complaint, the office employees informed us that our application is missing from their office. We have been resisting the presence of this liquor store in our ward from past 3 months and we want its complete shut down as it is disturbing our lives, the drunkards use to come here all day in their vehicles playing loud music and exchange abuses with each other all around here”, another protestor said.

“We thought that as the DC mam is a woman she will really understand our plight but she has only given us false assurances so far”’ she added.

A local Sarpanch said, “I want to say that the opening of this wine shop is illegal here as at around 200 meters from the proposed wine shop there is a temple and then there are other institutions which is around its vicinity. If we go by the rules before opening a liquor shop permission and consent of the local residents are needed who are living in that area and I am not able to understand one thing that there are 10 panchayats here in our area as well as many institutions are also here but how nobody asked us and still without our consent who passed the non-objection certificate (NOC) for this liquor shop here”.

Adding he said, “I demand the local administrator to strictly punish those who are involved in this case, even if an excise officer is involved or any other officer she/he must be equally punished”.
