Four terrorists were killed in two encounters — one in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district and another in Kulgam district — on Sunday, police said. The encounter in Kulgam is still underway.

The two terrorists killed in the Kupwara encounter were Pakistanis affiliated with the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Police said the encounter in Kupwara started after the forces launched an operation in the Lolab area of north Kashmir on the instance of an arrested terrorist, Showket Ahmed Sheikh.

In Kulgam, the two militants killed were identified as Haris Sharief of Srinagar, a LeT militant, and Zakir Padder of Kulgam, from the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit, said IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.

The Kulgam encounter is underway in the Damhal Hanji Pora area.
