Massive protest demonstration was staged yesterday by the aspirants of the Indian army against the new Agnipath recruitment scheme.

Shouting slogans and blocking the road at Jammu-Poonch national highway, the protestors demanded the cancellation of Agnipath scheme.

“We do not want to join the army just for the period of four years, the present government is deceiving us by inducting the youngsters on contractual basis and we stand against this decision”, said one of the protestor.

Manpreet Singh another protestor told the media, “The government has been informing us from past two years that they will conduct the army recruitment exams but due to the pandemic it was not conducted.Now the government has launched the new scheme of ‘tour of service’ which is a four year recruitment plan, we completely reject this and also demand age relaxtion’’.

“What if somebody got martyred during the four year of service and who will then take care of his family?”, he added further.

A local politician from Aam aadmi party expressing his displeasure at the scheme described the scheme as unfair for the young defence aspirants and said, “ the present regime has become stubborn into converting the government run institutions in private sectors and they are doing the same with our prestigious Indian army defence services, it is injustice with our youths and the government must immediately cancel this scheme”.
