Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu who is serving prison sentence for a 34-year old road rage case at Patiala central jail will work as a clerk in the same prison.
On May 19 , the cricketer turned politician Sidhu , was sentenced to one-year rigrous imprisonment by the apex court in a three decade old road rage case where he was found guilty as back in 1988 he got into an argument with Gurnam Singh, a resident of Patiala, over a parking spot. Mr Sidhu and his friend, Rupinder Singh Sandhu, allegedly dragged Gurnam Singh out of his car and hit him. He later died in hospital. Earlier he was acquitted in the same case a couple of times but now has eventually been convicted by the Supreme Court.
He won’t be allowed to go out for work and will work from his cell only . Files will be sent over to his barrack.
For the first three months, the convicts are trained without wages. They are entitled to be paid Rs 30-90 daily after being classified as an unskilled, semi-skilled or skilled prisoner.
He will be taught how to brief lengthy court judgments and compile jail records, as told by the police officials.
