There has been a lot of commotion in Jammu and Kashmir for the last two years regarding the liquor business, but the number of drinkers in this union territory is much less than in other states. Only 9 per cent of the total population of Jammu and Kashmir consume alcohol.
Jammu and Kashmir are at the lowest rank in North India. If the first ten states of the country are selected based on the number of people who drink alcohol, then Jammu and Kashmir have no name in them. Arunachal Pradesh has the highest number of alcohol drinkers in the country, where 52.7 per cent of men and 24.2 per cent of women drink alcohol. In Jammu and Kashmir, only 8.8 per cent of men and 0.2 per cent of women consume alcohol.
National Family Health has done this latest survey. The agency has conducted this survey at the national level, in which the figures of the people drinking alcohol have come to the fore, which is quite pleasant. For example, if we talk about the sale of liquor in Jammu and Kashmir, then in the financial year 2020-21, 77887 bottles were sold. In this, most locally produced country liquor was sold.
According to the data of the Excise Department, 122.57 lakh bottles of India-made liquor were sold in the financial year 2020-21, while 225.70 lakh bottles of country liquor were sold and 64.58 lakh bottles of beer were sold in the state during this period. If we talk about revenue, then in 2020-21, the department got a man of Rs 135381.20 lakh.
