This week, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has launched a campaign against encroachment on roadsides and footpaths for the third time this week. Jammu Municipal Corporation has started this activity with the help of police so that the condition of the smart city can be improved and provide relief to the passers-by and drivers. In this episode, on Thursday, under the supervision of the Corporation’s Secretary Atul Kumar and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Manisha, the Khilavarji and Revenue Wing of the Corporation launched an anti-encroachment campaign from Raghunath Bazar.
The team removed encroachments on roadsides, and footpaths in Kanak Mandi, Rajendra Bazar, Veer Marg, Residency Road and Shaheedi Chowk. During this, the shopkeepers’ goods kept on the footpaths were confiscated. In addition, about two small truck goods were seized.
Corporation officials and police officials made traders and shopkeepers aware that they should keep their goods in the shops, with instructions to confiscate the goods kept while visiting the markets. No one can sell or display goods by placing them on the sidewalks and roadsides. The team confiscated many items and brought them to the corporation’s store, where it is handed over to the shopkeepers only after paying the fine. During this, on coming to know about the corporation’s action, many street vendors themselves packed their belongings and fled from there before the team’s arrival. Some shopkeepers also put themselves out.
Corporation Secretary Atul Kumar said that a campaign had been started in collaboration with the police to get the footpaths and roadsides of the city cleared. Its purpose is to provide relief to the common people. He said that there are directions from the High Court also. So the encroachers will not be spared. Shopkeepers, traders and street vendors should keep footpaths and roadsides empty. Otherwise, they will have to face legal action along with a fine.
