Hundreds of devotees thronged Mata Bala Sundri shrine in Sundri Kote Hills of Billawar to get the blessing of the Goddess.

The devotees trekked 6 to 9 km on hilly terrain to reach the shrine to pay obeisance and offer special prayers on Navratra days, but the lack of basic infrastructure on the way to the shrine created many problems for the devotees.
As per legend, the temple of Mata Bala Sundri is 300 years old and was constructed by the king of Akhnoor after the Goddess appeared in his dreams.
To manage the affairs of the shrine, Mata Bala Sundri Shrine Board was constituted eight years back, but its activities are not seen on the ground.
Mata Bala Sundri Management Committee is the caretaker of the temple, and it uses donations to run the affairs of the temple like free Langer etc.
Jagan Nath Khajuria, Committee Member, said that number of visiting devotees is increasing with every passing day, but arrangements at the shrine are not proper.
He raised the issues like road connectivity, works from Boura to the temple is going on at a snail’s pace.
Ritesh Mahajan of the Langer Committee said there is no arrangement of water, better pathway or medicare at the shrine.
He appealed to the J&K LG to develop the shrine on the Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine pattern.
