A total of five militants have been shot dead by security forces since this morning in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district in two separate gunfights.
Two militants were killed in a brief shootout at Kralhaar near a railway station in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday afternoon, police said.
DGP Dilbag Singh said that the suspects, travelling in a car, were asked to stop at a police naka. When they were asked for their IDs, one of them tried to shoot at police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) but was shot dead and the other suspect who tried to escape was also killed, said Singh.
An AK-201 assault rifle, two Chinese pistols were among the weapons recovered from them.
In the morning, three militants were killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla district, a defence spokesman said.
Alert troops noticed some suspicious movement along the LoC near Tourna in Boniyar area in the early hours of Thursday and challenged the infiltrators, the spokesperson said.
He said the infiltrators opened fire on the positions of the security forces. They were killed in a gunbattle. Four AK-47 rifles and four haversacks were recovered from the scene.
The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants were not immediately known.
