300 toilets to come up along highway in Reasi

To counter the menace of open defecation, the Swachh Bharat Mission in association the Reasi administration and the Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board, is working to build 300 toilets in dhabas, tea stalls and other places along the highway.Reasi Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G, who is also vice-chairman of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board, has launched a new initiative under which every dhaba, tea stall or any refreshment point on the highway in the district would have toilet facility.A team comprising the District Panchayat Officer (Nodal Officer SDM), Tehsildar, Pouni, and officials from Rural Development and Revenue Departments has been constituted to implement the project.Parvinder Kour, District Panchayat Officer, Reasi, said earlier 50 dhaba owners were motivated to construct separate toilets for men and women with proper signage from Pouni to the Shiv Khori Shrine. The initiative had started showing results, she said.The administration is now identifying places for 300 more toilets along the highway where sanitary complexes would be constructed as a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, she added.Pouni Tehsildar Rajesh Baru, who is monitoring the process, said, “we are ensuring easy access to toilets to the people. The toilets would be prominently marked so that they can easily be found.”An eatery owner, Madan Lal, said he was motivated to construct functional separate toilets for men and women after attending the meeting of the Reasi administration.
