Kupwara, Dec 19: At least 25 sheep were killed in a wild animal attack in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.
The incident occurred during the night in Jahama Mawer village of Qalamabad tehsil, where wild animals reportedly entered the sheep barn of a local resident, Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Karim Sheikh, and killed all the animals inside.
Officials said the incident clearly appears to be a case of a wild animal attack.
Such attacks, particularly during the winter months, have seen a rise across Kashmir in recent years. Experts attribute the increase to human encroachment into forest areas, which has reduced natural habitats and food sources for wild animals, pushing them closer to human settlements.
