Jammu, Dec 15: Vijay Saraf was elected as Secretary of the Amar Singh Club on Sunday, while 10 candidates were declared elected as members of the Managing Committee. Elections for the 11-member committee were held at the club premises.
Polling began around 11.30 am and concluded at 5 pm, with a total of 2,657 votes cast. The election process was conducted under the supervision of independent persons.
Saraf secured the highest number of votes, polling 2,006 votes and defeating his nearest rivals Ajay Anand and Dr Vikram Handa, who received 1,430 and 874 votes respectively.
Among the elected Managing Committee members, Sahil Mahajan polled 1,679 votes, followed by Rajesh Langar with 1,667 votes. Ajay Anand secured 1,430 votes, Tania Kukreja 1,428 votes, Manish Gupta 1,357 votes, Nitika Bhandari 1,350 votes, Viplove Gupta 1,268 votes, Manmohan Singh 1,228 votes, Naresh Kumar Gupta (Tony) 1,164 votes, and Viraaj Malhotra with 1,161 votes.
As per the club’s constitution, the Chief Minister is the President of the Amar Singh Club, while the Divisional Commissioner Jammu serves as its Vice President. Five members of the Managing Committee are to be nominated by the President.
It has been reported that some controversial individuals are allegedly lobbying for nomination by using money power through this provision.
