Leh | January 16 Mohd Ishaq :
Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Mukesh Singh on Friday formally assumed charge as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Ladakh, bringing with him decades of extensive experience in policing, border security, and internal security operations.

A 1996-batch IPS officer, Singh took charge in the afternoon, officials confirmed. His appointment comes at a crucial time as Ladakh continues to strengthen its law enforcement architecture amid evolving security challenges along sensitive borders and within the region.

The new DGP has held several high-profile and strategically important assignments during his distinguished career. He has served as Additional Director General in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Additional Director General Jammu, Inspector General ITBP, Inspector General Jammu, Inspector General Crime in Jammu and Kashmir, and Inspector General in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Mukesh Singh has also served as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in multiple districts of Jammu and Kashmir, where he led law-and-order management, counter-insurgency operations, and complex criminal investigations during some of the region’s most challenging periods.

Senior police officials said Singh’s deep understanding of border management, internal security, and intelligence-driven policing is expected to significantly enhance the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Ladakh Police, especially given the region’s strategic location and demanding terrain.

The Ladakh Police fraternity welcomed the new DGP, expressing confidence that his leadership would strengthen professionalism, inter-agency coordination, and operational efficiency across the force.
