Davos , Jan 22 : US President Donald Trump on Wednesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a “fantastic man” and a personal friend, while expressing optimism about a future India–US trade agreement.

Speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum annual meeting in Davos, Trump said he has great respect for the Indian Prime Minister and is confident that both countries will arrive at a mutually beneficial trade deal.

“I have great respect for your Prime Minister. He’s a fantastic man and a friend of mine. We’re going to have a good deal,” Trump said while responding to a question on the status of trade talks between India and the United States.

His remarks come amid heightened global focus on trade and economic realignments, with India and the US exploring ways to deepen economic cooperation, ease trade barriers, and strengthen strategic and commercial ties.

Trump’s comments are being seen as a positive signal for bilateral relations, particularly in areas such as trade, technology, and investment, as both nations look to enhance economic engagement in a changing global landscape.
