Jammu | January 16 : Tension erupted on Akhnoor Road in Jammu on Friday after police resorted to a cane charge to disperse a group of aspirants protesting outside a Border Security Force (BSF) recruitment centre.
According to officials, a large number of candidates gathered near the BSF recruitment venue after noticing that their names were not included in the list of aspirants permitted to take part in the ongoing recruitment process. The agitated youth blocked the busy Akhnoor Road, disrupting traffic movement for a considerable period.
Police teams rushed to the spot after receiving information about the road blockade and asked the protesters to clear the road. When the demonstrators allegedly refused to disperse, police used mild force, including a cane charge, to restore traffic flow and maintain law and order.
Several protesting aspirants said they had travelled from far-flung areas after months of preparation, only to find their names missing from the list displayed at the venue. They alleged that candidates from outside Jammu and Kashmir were allowed to participate, while many local aspirants were turned away without any clear explanation.
“We came from distant places after preparing for months, but our names were missing. Outsiders were allowed, but we were stopped,” some of the protesters claimed.
A police official said the situation was brought under control shortly after the intervention, and vehicular movement on Akhnoor Road was restored.
