New Delhi, Jan 9: Ahead of his visit to Somnath on January 11 for the Somnath Swabhiman Parv celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the enduring spiritual and cultural significance of Somnath Dham. He said the temple’s divine energy has inspired generations, fostering faith, courage, and self-respect.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister reflected on the shrine’s historic legacy, saying, “The grand heritage of the holy Somnath Dham has been awakening the consciousness of people for centuries. The divine energy emanating from here will continue to light the lamp of faith, courage, and self-respect throughout the ages.” He also shared Sanskrit verses celebrating the temple’s timeless influence.
On Thursday, PM Modi announced the launch of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, sharing photographs from his previous visits and inviting people to post their own pictures using #SomnathSwabhimanParv. He noted that the temple had withstood attacks since January 1026, which only strengthened India’s cultural unity, and highlighted the repeated restoration and revival of the shrine over centuries.
Describing the event as a festival of remembrance, the Prime Minister said it honours Indians who never compromised on their values, despite challenges, and whose loyalty to India’s civilisation and cultural consciousness remained unwavering. “This occasion of a thousand years of unbroken faith inspires us to remain constantly committed to efforts for the unity of the nation,” he added.
The Somnath Swabhiman Parv, observed from January 8 to 11, will feature programmes showcasing India’s spiritual heritage, cultural pride, and social values. Preparations in Gujarat are underway, with heightened security measures for the Prime Minister’s visit to the Somnath temple on January 11.
