Kashmir , Dec 24: Security forces have recovered balloons carrying Pakistani symbols from two separate locations in north Kashmir, close to the Line of Control, triggering heightened vigilance in the border districts of Baramulla and Kupwara.
Officials said around ten balloons with a Pakistani flag attached were found near Sarna Top in the Khadinayar area of Baramulla district. The objects were spotted by a patrolling team of the Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles during routine area domination and were immediately seized for further examination.
In another incident, a balloon bearing the inscription of Pakistan International Airlines was recovered from the top of a tree in an orchard at Naugam in the Handwara area of Kupwara district. Locals noticed the balloon and informed security forces, following which Army personnel retrieved it.
Authorities said both incidents are being taken seriously due to their proximity to the Line of Control. Initial assessments suggest the balloons may have drifted across because of wind conditions, but all angles are being examined.
Security agencies are analysing the seized material to rule out any security threat or ulterior motive. Surveillance has been further strengthened in border areas, where such incidents occasionally raise concern due to past attempts to spread propaganda or create disturbance.
Residents in border villages have been advised to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious objects to the nearest security or police unit, and to avoid touching unidentified items.
