Maharashtra  ,Jan 28 : Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was killed on Wednesday after an aircraft carrying him crashed in Pune district, officials said. Five others on board the aircraft also died in the accident.

The aircraft went down while attempting to land near Baramati early in the morning. Rescue teams were rushed to the site soon after the crash was reported.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed Ajit Pawar’s death and said the aircraft involved was a Learjet 45 with registration number VT-SSK, operated by VSR. The jet crash-landed near Baramati under circumstances that are still being examined.

According to the DGCA, five people were on board the aircraft, including Ajit Pawar, his personal security officer, an attendant, and two crew members, the pilot-in-command and the first officer.

The exact cause of the crash is yet to be determined. Authorities have launched an investigation, and further details regarding the sequence of events and other aspects of the incident are awaited.
