New Delhi: The Chief Security Officer of Jawaharlal Nehru University has written to the Station House Officer of Vasant Kunj police station, seeking registration of an FIR over the raising of objectionable and provocative slogans outside Sabarmati Hostel on the JNU campus on Sunday. The slogans were reportedly directed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the letter, the university official said the incident violated the JNU Code of Conduct and went beyond the scope of democratic dissent. He noted that the slogans had the potential to disrupt public order, campus harmony, and the overall safety and security environment of the university.
The letter further stated that the slogans were clearly audible, deliberate, and repeatedly raised, suggesting intentional and conscious misconduct rather than a spontaneous expression of opinion. It described the act as a wilful disregard for institutional discipline, established norms of civil discourse, and the peaceful academic character of the JNU campus.
The university has requested police action to address the incident and prevent any further escalation that could affect law and order within the campus.
