Jammu, Feb 14: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested two persons for allegedly smuggling heroin dropped by a drone from across the border in Kathua district, officials said.

According to officials, an investigation was launched following specific inputs about a drone drop along the Jammu and Kashmir–Punjab border near Nagri in Kathua. Using technical surveillance and CCTV footage analysis, police identified and arrested the first accused, Jatin, a resident of Pathankot in Punjab.

During further investigation, the second accused, Danish Dogra alias Sajan, a resident of Jakhbar in Kathua, was also arrested in connection with the case.

Preliminary findings suggest that the accused were in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler through VoIP calls and had received the consignment to distribute it among local youth for financial gain.

Police said around 150 grams of heroin was recovered during the operation. Further investigation is underway to trace the broader network involved in the cross-border smuggling racket.
