Srinagar , Jan 17 : The Meteorological Department in Srinagar on Saturday issued a forecast predicting a fresh wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that January 17 and 18 are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with light snowfall possible over isolated higher reaches. From January 19 to 20, conditions are likely to turn generally cloudy, bringing light to moderate rain and snowfall at scattered to fairly widespread locations across the region.
January 21 may see partly to generally cloudy skies, with isolated chances of light snowfall in higher elevations. A notable shift is expected from the evening of January 22, with widespread light to moderate rain or snowfall anticipated between January 23 and 24. Heavy rain or snowfall could occur in some districts of the Chenab Valley, the Pir Panjal range, and parts of south Kashmir during this period.
Light rain or snowfall is likely at scattered places on January 26. The MET Department also cautioned about gusty winds and possible landslides in vulnerable areas.
Travelers have been advised to plan trips carefully, especially around January 23–24, and to follow traffic and administrative advisories. Farmers are urged to suspend agricultural activities during the forecasted wet spell.
