Bandipora || Fresh snowfall has been reported in the higher reaches of Bandipora district, including Gurez and Tulail areas. Snowfall has also occurred at Razdan Top, the gateway of Gurez, and in the Bagtore area, ahead of the Chillai Kalan period.
Following the weather conditions, the 85-kilometre Bandipora–Gurez road has been closed as a precautionary measure. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Gurez, Mukhtar Ahmad Ahanger (JKAS), stated that traffic movement in Sub-Division Gurez has been halted due to prevailing and anticipated weather conditions. The restriction came into force from 4:00 pm on Friday and will remain effective until further orders.
As per the directive, movement of all types of vehicles between Bandipora and Gurez has been barred in both directions beyond the cut-off time. The order directs the police to ensure that no vehicle crosses designated checkpoints during the restriction period.
The Station House Officers of Police Stations Gurez and Pethkoot, along with the In-Charge of Police Post Izmarg, have been tasked with enforcing the suspension on the ground. The district administration has also informed the Traffic Police, Army units, Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and other concerned departments for coordination.
Officials said the decision was taken in the interest of public safety due to weather conditions in the Gurez sector.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, said that winter preparedness measures have been completed in the Gurez valley. She stated that essential winter stocks have been positioned in advance, generators have been made functional, and fuel has been stocked.
The Bandipora–Gurez road is the only surface link to the Gurez valley and remains closed for several months each year during winter.
Authorities have advised residents and travellers to follow official advisories and avoid travel until further instructions.
