Srinagar, Jan 3: A fire broke out late Friday night at a three-storeyed residential house in HMT Shah Vilayat Colony, Sector 8, Srinagar, after an electric blanket developed a short circuit. Timely action by the Fire and Emergency Services prevented the blaze from turning into a major incident, officials said.
According to officials, sparks from the electric blanket triggered the fire, which quickly spread to a portion of the house. Firefighting teams rushed to the spot and managed to bring the flames under control within a short time, stopping the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
A preliminary assessment carried out before the cooling operation confirmed that the short circuit in the electric blanket was the cause of the fire.
The operation was led by Fire Incharge Mehraj ud Shah and supervised by Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Dr. Mir Aqib Hussain, along with Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah.
Officials confirmed that no injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, senior police officials have once again urged residents to avoid using substandard electric blankets, especially during night hours, warning that faulty heating appliances pose serious fire risks. People have also been advised not to leave electrical devices unattended and to exercise extra caution during peak winter usage.
