Doda, January 18, 2026: Continuing its crackdown on narcotics smuggling, Doda Police arrested an alleged drug peddler and recovered 578 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession.

The action was taken under the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Sandeep Mehta, JKPS. A police team from Police Station Doda, led by the SHO and the In-Charge Police Post Pull Doda, set up a naka and traffic checking point at Ganpat Bridge under the supervision of the DySP Headquarters Doda.

During the checking, police noticed a suspicious person standing near a shed close to the bridge. On seeing the police team, the individual attempted to escape but was immediately apprehended. His vehicle was also seized on the spot.

The accused was identified as Shravan Kumar, son of Narendra Kumar, resident of Chilly Bhalesa, Tehsil Gandoh, District Doda. During a personal search, police recovered a white plastic bag containing 578 grams of a charas-like narcotic substance. The accused failed to give any satisfactory explanation for possessing the contraband.

Following the recovery, FIR No. 18/2026 under Sections 8 and 20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Doda. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the recovered substance and identify others involved in the drug network.

Doda Police reiterated their zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related crimes and urged the public to share any information about narcotics trafficking, assuring complete confidentiality to informants.
