Kokernag, Dec 26: The Daksum–Sinthan Top–Chhatroo Road on National Highway-244 has been reopened for limited vehicular movement after a review of snow clearance and winter preparedness by the local administration.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag, Prince Kumar, IAS, along with Tehsildar Larnoo, conducted an on-site inspection of the highway to assess road conditions and the progress of snow clearance along the mountainous stretch. The inspection focused on vulnerable and shadow-prone areas where the risk of ice formation remains high during winter.
During the visit, the SDM reviewed the deployment of machinery and manpower, inspected arrangements at Daksum Naka, and interacted with staff on duty to assess traffic regulation measures. He directed the concerned agencies to ensure that no icy patches develop on the road and instructed regular spraying of urea, salt, or other suitable de-icing materials to prevent frost and ensure safer travel.
Following the inspection and completion of snow clearance operations, the administration announced that traffic will be allowed on the Daksum–Sinthan Top–Chhatroo Road from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, subject to weather and road conditions.
Authorities have advised commuters to remain cautious and strictly follow instructions issued by the Traffic Police and field staff. Officials said traffic movement will continue to be regulated based on weather conditions and ongoing safety assessments to avoid any untoward incidents.
