Kashmir , Dec 17 : A fresh cold wave has tightened its grip across Kashmir, with minimum temperatures fluctuating and fog persisting in several low-lying areas, the Meteorological Department said. Drass remained among the coldest places, recording sub-zero temperatures.

According to the weather forecast, conditions are likely to remain mainly dry across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours and the following two days. From December 18 to 20, isolated light snowfall is expected over the higher reaches of north and central Kashmir, while the plains are likely to stay largely dry.

The department said weather may turn partly to generally cloudy on December 20 and 21. There is a possibility of light snowfall over higher reaches of the Kashmir division and light rain at scattered places in the Jammu plains, mainly from the late night of December 20 to the afternoon of December 21.

The IMD has advised that shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue at many places in the Kashmir division and at isolated locations in the Jammu division. It also warned that light snowfall coupled with sub-freezing temperatures in higher areas could lead to slippery road conditions during late night hours of December 20 and the morning of December 21, urging travellers and transporters to follow traffic and administrative advisories.
