A joint team of Jammu Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) successfully rescued a stranded driver from Niki Tawi following a flash flood in the early hours of Wednesday. According to police officials, at around 5:40 AM, an alert was received at Police Station Satwari regarding a dumper truck driver trapped in the Niki Tawi area near Shiva Stone Crusher. The entire vehicle was submerged due to a sudden flash flood and a sharp rise in the water level. The driver was seen struggling for his life while standing on the roof of the submerged dumper. Upon receiving the report, senior police officers were immediately informed, and Operation Rudder was swiftly launched by the South Zone Police. Without wasting time, a police team led by PSI Balbir Singh, In-charge of Phallian Mandal Police Post, rushed to the spot, assessed the situation, and assured the stranded driver that the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) was there to save him. The team also requisitioned a specialized SDRF rescue unit and maintained continuous communication with the driver until their arrival. In the shortest possible time, a rescue team led by ASI Om Parkash of SDRF arrived at the scene. With coordinated efforts from Satwari Police Station and SDRF personnel, the driver—identified as Mohan Lal of Om Nagar, Gole Gujral—was successfully rescued from the middle of the river. He was given first aid and taken to the Phallian Mandal police post. Operation Rudder was supervised by SSP Jammu, SP South, and SDPO South, while the execution was carried out by SHO Satwari and IC PP Phallian Mandal.
