Srinagar , Jan 10 :  A BJP spokesperson from Jammu and Kashmir has urged the senior leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party to urgently intervene for the reopening of the University and Medical College associated with the sacred name of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, terming its closure a major emotional, educational, and institutional setback for the people of the Union Territory.

In a detailed representation addressed to BJP National General Secretary and J&K In-charge Shri Tarun Chugh, State President Shri CA Satish Sharma, General Secretary (Organization) Shri Ashok Koul, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, and Chief Spokesperson Sunil Sethi, party spokesperson Manzoor Bhat said the shutdown of the institution has severely impacted the academic future of thousands of students and aspirants.

Emphasizing that education is the backbone of a strong nation, the spokesperson said an institution bearing the revered name of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji must function as a beacon of knowledge, hope, and service. He appealed to the party leadership to treat the reopening of the university and its associated medical college as a priority and ensure their sustainable and uninterrupted functioning.

The BJP spokesperson also sought Hindu Minority Status for the university, stating that such a step would grant greater autonomy, protect community-specific interests, and help the institution evolve into a centre of excellence. He said the matter is linked not only to public welfare but also to faith and cultural ethos.

Raising serious concerns over healthcare education, Bhat stressed the need to establish and strengthen medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir, saying access to quality medical education and healthcare infrastructure remains a critical challenge. He noted that medical colleges are vital for producing skilled doctors, improving healthcare delivery, and easing pressure on existing institutions.

Referring to his 13-year association with the BJP, the spokesperson said the party’s ideology has always emphasized education, service, and Antyodaya, ensuring development reaches the last person in the queue.
The appeal urges the BJP leadership to take decisive action on reopening the university and medical college to safeguard the future of education and healthcare in Jammu and Kashmir.
