Srinagar, Dec 24: Authorities on Wednesday issued an avalanche warning for five districts of Jammu and Kashmir following recent moderate to heavy snowfall in higher reaches of the Union Territory.

Officials said a low-danger avalanche warning has been issued for Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts. Avalanches are likely to occur at elevations above 2,800 metres in these areas over the next 24 hours.

Residents and travellers have been advised to avoid avalanche-prone zones and strictly follow official safety advisories.

Large parts of the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed sustained snowfall this week, prompting authorities to remain on alert.
