New Delhi , Feb 17 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to visit Israel around February 25 for high-level talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sources indicated.
The proposed visit comes months after a fragile ceasefire in Gaza and at a time when India has supported a broader peace plan for the region but has stayed away from joining the initiative reportedly led by former US President Donald Trump.
Speaking at the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations, Netanyahu said Modi is expected to visit Israel next week and described India as a “tremendous ally.” He highlighted expanding cooperation across sectors and referred to India as a major global power with 1.4 billion people.
India’s focus remains on strengthening its strategic partnership with Israel, especially in defence, security, agriculture and technology. The two countries have built close coordination in counter-terrorism efforts and defence procurement over the years.
Following the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas, Prime Minister Modi had expressed strong support for Israel and reiterated India’s firm stand against terrorism. At the same time, New Delhi has consistently called for restraint, dialogue and a two-state solution to ensure lasting peace in the region.
The visit is expected to further deepen bilateral ties and open new avenues of cooperation amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in West Asia.
