Jammu, Feb 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that replacement of the existing overhead power distribution network with an underground cabling system in Jammu East constituency is not part of the approved scope under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).

Replying to a starred question raised by MLA Yudhvir Sethi, the Government clarified that while underground cabling has been sanctioned in certain identified areas of Jammu City under RDSS, Jammu East has not been included in the approved plan.

The works that have been sanctioned are being executed by NTPC under the ED-II Urban Jammu package, primarily covering the Jammu South area. The Government stated that a total of 309.29 circuit kilometres of 11 kV underground cabling has been sanctioned under the scheme. Of this, 118.34 circuit kilometres have been completed as of January 2026.

On the issue of providing 200 units of free electricity, the Government reiterated its commitment to supply 200 units per month free of cost to every household belonging to the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) category in Jammu and Kashmir.

Responding to queries regarding the delay, the Government said that the project approval for the scheme is currently in its final stage, indicating that implementation is expected once formal clearance is granted.

The statement comes amid continued public interest in power sector reforms and subsidy commitments made to economically weaker sections in the Union Territory.
