Qazigund, Feb 3: Two personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) department were injured while battling a major fire at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday, officials said.

According to officials, the fire broke out at the school building and rapidly spread, engulfing the structure before it could be immediately brought under control.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel, assisted by police and local residents, launched a joint operation to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

“Two firefighters sustained injuries during the operation,” an official said.

The injured personnel were identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Wani and Waseem Mehraj Shah, both posted at the F&ES Qazigund unit. They were shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where their condition is reported to be stable.
