Srinagar, Jan 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday emphasized that administrative and recruitment decisions must be based solely on merit, warning against politicizing examinations and their outcomes.
Speaking in Gulmarg regarding the Judicial Services Mains results controversy, he said those who qualify on merit have every right to selection. “Not everything should be viewed through the prism of region or religion. Certain decisions must rest purely on merit,” he added.
Abdullah also stated that if credible evidence of fraud or manipulation emerges, a thorough investigation will be ordered, with no wrongdoing being shielded.
During his visit to Gulmarg, the Chief Minister reviewed snowfall-related arrangements, power restoration, and preparations for the inauguration of a new ski lift. He noted that recent snowfall would benefit tourism and help mitigate potential water shortages.
On power supply, he said generation had temporarily dropped from around 1,700 MW to nearly 100 MW due to heavy snowfall and winds, but supply had largely stabilized, exceeding 1,500 MW by Saturday night. Restoration in the worst-affected areas is expected soon.
Abdullah also highlighted preparations for the Khelo India Winter Games, noting that adequate snowfall this year should allow smooth conduct of the event.
Reaffirming his party’s position on the region’s territorial integrity, he said the Jammu and Kashmir government never supported the division of the former state, criticizing the BJP and its allies for the separation of Ladakh and Jammu.
