Srinagar, Jan 25: The Srinagar–Jammu national highway remained closed for the third consecutive day on Sunday as fresh snowfall was reported from several parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar, officials said.

Hundreds of vehicles have been stranded on the 270-kilometre highway since Friday, when heavy snowfall forced authorities to suspend traffic.

“The highway is still closed as snow clearance operations are underway. Restoration may take some time as fresh snowfall is continuing around the highway in Kulgam district,” a senior traffic police official said.

Srinagar city witnessed light snowfall during the early hours of Sunday.

Despite the weather conditions, flight operations at Srinagar International Airport have not been affected. Officials said three flights had already arrived and air traffic was continuing normally.

“The flight operations at Srinagar airport are going on as per schedule,” an Airport Authority official said.
