New York/Washington, Jan 21: US President Donald Trump’s Air Force One had to return to Joint Base Andrews near Washington DC after a “minor electrical issue” was detected shortly after takeoff while en route to Switzerland for the World Economic Forum (WEF).
Reporters on board said the crew identified the issue and, as a precaution, decided to turn the plane around. Trump and his entourage will board a replacement aircraft, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed.
Trump is scheduled to address the WEF annual meeting in Davos on Wednesday, meet forum leadership and foreign dignitaries, and attend a reception with global business leaders. On Thursday, he will participate in the “Board of Peace Charter announcement,” an initiative inviting nations to sign a charter for Gaza’s redevelopment under his proposed conflict resolution plan.
The WEF annual meeting, which began on January 19 and runs through January 23, brings together global leaders and business figures. Trump’s visit comes amid tensions between the US and European nations over his proposals to acquire Greenland and impose tariffs until an agreement is reached regarding the territory.
