New Delhi , Jan 14 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conveyed his warm wishes to citizens across India on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Magh Bihu, and Pongal, festivals that celebrate the harvest season in different regions of the country.
In his message, the Prime Minister said these festivals symbolize hope and positivity. He noted that while Makar Sankranti is observed in various forms across India, the spirit of joy and enthusiasm remains the same. Highlighting the festival’s significance for farmers, he described it as an opportunity to express gratitude to those who sustain the nation through their hard work.
Regarding Magh Bihu, PM Modi said the festival reflects Assamese culture and celebrates joy, warmth, and community bonding. He noted that it marks the completion of the harvest season, encouraging gratitude and contentment, and acknowledged the contributions of farmers while wishing everyone peace, good health, and success.
On Pongal, the Prime Minister extended greetings with a “Vanakkam” and said the festival celebrates the connection between humans and nature. He emphasized that Pongal honors agriculture, rural life, and the dignity of labour, strengthening family and social ties. He also highlighted the richness of Tamil traditions and the pride India takes in the Tamil language, one of the world’s oldest.
Magh Bihu, along with Lohri, Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and Uttarayan, showcases the diversity of India’s harvest celebrations. Lohri, particularly in northern India, is marked by bonfires, traditional foods, and folk songs, adding warmth and festivity to the season.
