Sopore, January 10, 2026: Sopore Police have arrested the accused involved in a bakery shop theft case in Sopore and effected recovery of stolen cash.
Police Station Sopore received a written complaint from the owner of a bakery shop regarding the theft of cash along with bakery items from his shop, “Cake Villa,” located at Shah Faisal Market, Sopore. The theft had taken place during night hours after the window of the shop was broken. Accordingly, FIR No. 05/2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, Sopore Police identified the suspect Shakir Ahmad Bhat, S/O Mohammad Sadiq Bhat, R/O Sir Syed Colony, Sopore. The accused attempted to evade arrest but was apprehended after sustained efforts. During sustained questioning, he confessed to the commission of the theft, leading to the recovery of stolen cash from his possession.
During further questioning, the accused also admitted that he had attempted to break open the locks of several shops in the main market Bus Stand Sopore and confessed to having consumed bakery items stolen from Cake Villa.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
