J&K, Jan 10 : Harsh winter conditions persisted across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, with sub-zero temperatures recorded in most areas during the night between Friday and Saturday.
In the Kashmir Valley, Shopian was the coldest at minus 8.2°C, followed by Pulwama at minus 8.0°C. Pahalgam recorded minus 7.8°C, Sopore minus 7.6°C, and Srinagar Airport dipped to minus 7.2°C. Srinagar city recorded a minimum of minus 5.7°C, while Qazigund and Kupwara registered minus 6.3°C and minus 6.1°C respectively. Gulmarg, a popular tourist destination, recorded minus 6.8°C. Temperature data for Kulgam was not available.
The Jammu region also felt the chill, particularly in higher-altitude areas. Bhaderwah recorded minus 2.8°C, Samba and Rajouri minus 1.6°C each, Banihal minus 0.4°C, and Udhampur 0.2°C. Jammu city experienced a low of 3.6°C, with Katra slightly warmer at 5.2°C. Data for Doda and Poonch was not available.
Ladakh remained the coldest region. Drass recorded the lowest temperature at minus 24.6°C, Nyoma minus 20.3°C, Padum minus 19.6°C, Hanle minus 17.0°C, Leh minus 14.4°C, and Kargil minus 13.7°C. Nubra Valley and Tangste recorded minus 13.5°C and minus 17.7°C, respectively.
Weather experts have warned that extreme cold is likely to continue, urging residents to take precautions against the severe winter conditions.
