New Delhi, Dec 25: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday attended the Christmas morning service at the Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi, joining a large congregation of Christians from Delhi and North India.

The service included special prayers, carols and hymns. Rt Rev Paul Swarup, the Bishop of Delhi, offered a special prayer for the Prime Minister during the proceedings.

Over the years, PM Modi has regularly participated in events connected with the Christian community. In Easter 2023, he attended celebrations at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Delhi. During Christmas 2023, he hosted a programme at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. In 2024, he attended a Christmas dinner at the residence of Minister George Kurian and a programme hosted by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI).

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister extended Christmas greetings to the people through a post on X. “Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas filled with peace, compassion and hope. May the teachings of Jesus Christ strengthen harmony in our society,” he wrote.

Across the country, cities were lit up with festive decorations as people celebrated Christmas with prayers, carols and family gatherings. Markets and streets were adorned with lights, Christmas trees, stars and wreaths, adding to the festive spirit.

Christmas, celebrated on December 25, marks the birth of Jesus Christ and carries the message of peace, love and brotherhood. Churches held special prayers, and families came together to share meals, exchange gifts and celebrate the festival with joy and faith.
