Srinagar: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Monday travelled to Srinagar aboard the Vande Bharat train from Katra, marking another milestone in Kashmir’s rail connectivity with the rest of the country.
Dr Abdullah had arrived in Katra earlier in the day before boarding the high-speed train, officials said.
Speaking to reporters after his journey, he described the rail link as a major relief for the people of Kashmir, particularly during adverse weather conditions. “The train has benefited us immensely. Even when flights are cancelled or roads are closed, the train continues to operate. It will greatly ease the problems faced by the people,” he said.
Referring to the recent snowfall in the Valley, Abdullah termed it a blessing after a prolonged dry spell. “It has eased some of the difficulties. We pray for more snowfall as it will be beneficial for Kashmir,” he added.
On the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, the NC president expressed confidence, saying the long-awaited move would happen at the right time. “It will also come. It will come on time,” he said.
