Rawalpindi, December 20: A special court that belongs to the Federal Investigation Agency made a decision about the Toshakhana-2 case. This case is about Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf party and his wife Bushra Bibi. The court said Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have to go to prison for 17 years. The Toshakhana-2 case is about a jewellery set made by Bulgari. The Saudi crown prince gave this jewellery set to Imran Khan as a gift, in May 2021. Imran Khan bought this jewellery set at a low price.

Imran got a sentence of ten years because he did not do what he was supposed to do with the trust that people had in him. This is under Section 409. He also got seven years for doing something as a person who serves the public. This is under Section 5(2)47 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Bushra Bibi got the punishment as Imran.

Both Imran and Bushra Bibi have to pay a fine of sixteen point four million rupees. If they do not pay this fine they will have to spend time in jail. The court thought about how old Imran and Bushra Bibi’re that they are a man and a woman when it was deciding their punishment. The court tried to be a kind, to Imran and Bushra Bibi. The court also thought about the time Imran and Bushra Bibi have already spent in jail under Section 382-B of the CrPC when it was deciding their punishment.

The couples lawyers are going to try to change the decision in a court. The couples legal teams want to challenge the verdict, in the court. They think the verdict is not right and the couples legal teams are going to fight it.

During proceedings, Imran denied all charges, calling the case politically motivated and fabricated. He maintained that the gift was reported to the Prime Minister’s Office, assessed according to the Toshakhana Policy 2018, and legally retained after payment to the national treasury.
