Ranaghat, West Bengal, Dec 20: Residents gathered at Taherpur Netaji Park in Ranaghat, Nadia, waving national flags and chanting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name ahead of his public address and the inauguration of multiple development projects worth ₹3,200 crore.

Key projects include a 66.7 km four-lane stretch of the Barajaguli-Krishnanagar section of NH-34 and the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Barasat-Barajaguli section, aimed at improving connectivity between Kolkata and Siliguri. PM Modi is scheduled to reach Ranaghat around 11:15 am.

The visit comes amid intensifying political competition between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress ahead of upcoming elections. PM Modi highlighted the benefits of central government projects in West Bengal while criticizing the state government for misrule, describing the BJP as the “only hope and trust” for the people.

Alongside the West Bengal visit, PM Modi will be in Assam from December 20-21. In Guwahati, he will inaugurate the new Bamboo Orchids terminal, unveil an 80-foot statue of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, and lay the foundation stone for a 12 lakh MT-capacity fertiliser unit at Namrup in Dibrugarh district. He will also address public rallies, meet students for ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ on the Brahmaputra, and pay tribute to 860 martyrs of the Assam Movement.

Authorities have deployed extensive security across Guwahati and other key locations to ensure smooth conduct and public safety during the Prime Minister’s visit.
