JAMMU, Nov 29: Hitting out hard at People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti for her outbursts, BJP national general secretary and in-charge Jammu  & Kashmir and Ladakh UTs Tarun Chugh, today said the statements given by her against BJP are the result of her desperation due to her party’s successive debacle in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a party review meeting here today, Chugh said Mehbooba is giving oft repeated statements against BJP and Modi Government due to desperation after her party’s debacle in the elections.

Referring to recent remarks by PDP chief, Mehbooba Mufti, Chugh dismissed them as baseless and reflective of her ideological bankruptcy. Mufti had alleged that the nation’s secular foundation was being undermined, to which Chugh responded, “Her comments are detached from reality. No Government scheme discriminates against any religion, group, or caste. The nation is witnessing inclusive development that uplifts every section of society.”
He further criticized Mufti for resorting to divisive rhetoric out of frustration due to repeated electoral failures. “The people have rejected her party time and again. Instead of introspection, she spreads venomous propaganda that has no basis in fact,” he remarked.
Chugh also termed the annulling of controversial Articles 370 and 35 A as historic decision of Modi Government. “The annulling of Article 370 and 35 A have become a history now”, he added.
The BJP national general secretary said that the restoration of Statehood to J&K is the commitment of the Modi Government but he did not give any time frame by which it would be restored.
Ruling out holding of talks with Pakistan as demanded by RJD leader, Tejashwi Yadav, Chugh said terror and talks can’t go together. He advised the RJD leader not to act like PRO of Pakistan. He said Pakistan has been exposed all over world as “factory of manufacturing terrorists”. “Anywhere in the world where terror attack takes place, Pakistan is found involved in that”, he added.
In response to a question that Congress MP from Wayanad, Kerala, Priyanka Gandhi took oath as MP in Lok Sabha by displaying copy of Indian Constitution, Chugh said the party which insulted the Constitution of the country and its founder most in last seven decades is now shedding crocodile tears and misleading the people. “They (Congress) worked against Constitution and murdered the democracy by putting people in jails are now shedding crocodile tears and misleading people”, he added.
In response to another question over standoff in Maharashtra on Government formation as the Shiv Sena Shinde is demanding important portfolios like Home, Chugh said all the three alliance partners in the State are solidly behind each other like a rock and there is no standoff on Government formation.
He attended the review meeting at the BJP UT office in Jammu as part of the ongoing ‘Sangathan Parv’. The meeting, was chaired by UT president Sat Sharma, focused on evaluating the progress of the membership drive and devising strategies to expand its reach to rural and remote areas.

Addressing party workers, Chugh highlighted BJP’s stature as the world’s largest democratic party, boasting over 11.5 crore members nationwide and 2.57 lakh members in Jammu  & Kashmir alone. He emphasized the party’s growing influence in the region, noting that BJP secured the highest vote share in the last Assembly elections under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chugh lauded India’s transformation under PM Modi, stating, “India is now the world’s fifth-largest economy, transitioning from one of the most fragile to one of the strongest. Every citizen, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, is reaping the benefits of the Government’s inclusive welfare schemes, which reflect the vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.” He reiterated the Government’s firm stance on terrorism, asserting that “Pakistan-sponsored terrorism will be eradicated entirely under our ‘Zero tolerance on terrorism’ policy.”
Chugh reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to building a united and prosperous India, emphasizing that the party’s unparalleled growth and the nation’s progress under PM Modi reflect a shared vision of democracy, development and inclusivity.
