Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday during his first visit to the national capital since assuming office last week. This visit comes on the heels of a remarkable victory in the recent assembly elections, where Abdullah’s National Conference (NC) secured 42 out of the 90 seats, marking the party’s return to power after a decade.
During the meeting, Abdullah discussed several key issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir, including infrastructure and development projects. Notably, he apprised Union Minister Nitin Gadkari about the ongoing and proposed road connectivity projects aimed at improving transportation across the union territory, officials said.
In the first cabinet meeting of his newly formed government, Abdullah’s administration passed a significant resolution, urging the central government to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. According to officials, this restoration is viewed as a crucial step in beginning the healing process for the region, reinstating its constitutional rights, and safeguarding the unique identity of its residents.
